Recent News: Gannon finishes 1-5 in first action of the year.
The Gannon Club team opened the tournament with IUP's B team. The Knights came out strong from the beginning and was able to keep the momentum flowing as they won set 1 21-19. Leading the Knights in set 1 was Clay Acker who had 5 kills and Mike Duffy who added 3. In set 2 the Knights struggled to get anything going offensively and weren't able to slow down #7 from IUP. The Knights lost set 2 13-21 with 3 players leading the way with 2 kills each. Gannon hit .143 against IUP B in both sets and was lead offensivley with Mike Duffy hitting .500 and Clay Acker leading the team with 7 kills. "I thought we came out ready to play in set 1 and showed it by our constant emotion on the court." said Coach Strub of his teams performance in set 1. "We struggled to terminate when we had chances in set 2 and we where unable to get out of our slump."
Following the IUP B match, Coach Strub had to leave in order to coach the women's team in Clarion in their final regular season match. The Knights where then forced to play the rest of the day without their Coach. In set 1 the Knights struggled to get anything going and struggled to hit against the tall block of Grove City and lost 21-9. In set 2, the Knights again struggled to get anything going and where beaten 21-13 putting the Knights at 1-3 so far in the tournament. Gannon hit a total of -.118 for both sets and had trouble handling the much taller Grove City team. Leading the way for the Knights was Kevin Cole with 5 kills and was the only Knight to hit higher than .000%.
In their last match-up of the tournament, the Knights squared off against IUP's A team who is the defending POVL Champs. Gannon came off to a fast start pulling ahead of IUP but then IUP retook the lead and never looked back. IUP won a very close match and took set 1 21-16. In the second set the Knights once again came out to an early lead and once again IUP eventually took the lead and continued to cruise their way to a 21-11 win over the Knights. Leading the way for Gannon was Mike Duffy with 4 kills and Will Hecht with 3. Gannon hit .000 for the match against a tough and experienced IUP team.
Gannon concluded the IUP tournament with a 1-5 record against some of the toughest competition at IUP. Leading the Knights for the whole tournament was Mike Duffy with 11 Kills, Clay 11 kills, and Kevin 7 kills. Also the Knights posted 8 blocks with Will and Kevin each having 1.5. Gannon managed 40 kills and hit .000 for the tournament. The Knights will return to action on November 21 where they will compete at Kent State.
